Best Practices for Online Discussions

This is a draft and will continue to be a “living document” as we explore online discussion groups.  As the need arises, we may add to or adjust this list.

  1. No names on the class website!
  2. Stay on topic.
  3. Check your writing over for accuracy, clarity, and completion.
  4. Don’t criticize or judge  other people or their ideas.
  5. Be polite when writing messages.  Ask yourself “How will someone else interpret what I’m writing?”
  6. Be safe and have an adult around in case you need help.  Ask for help if you need it.
  7. It’s ok to suggest, but not to police.
  8. If you wouldn’t say it in class, don’t say it online.
