Would you want to sharpen pencils?

David Rees’s chosen profession is to sharpen pencils with tremendous precision and artistry. That’s why he’s called an artisan. Would you ever want to be an artisan pencil sharpener like David? Why or why not? Use specific details to support your answer. (If you want to rewatch the video, go ahead and click here. Remember, always have an adult supervising you when you’re working online! This is ALWAYS a rule, whether I specifically mention it or not!)

I would like to be an artisan pencil sharpener like David Rees because I would get to use many different tools. Perhaps I get to use a knife and rub the pencil on the sandpaper thing. I would also see many people and different interesting pencils. I might even have a pencil scrapbook too. I would keep one by drawing the pencils.

Good thought, 16. How long do you think you would enjoy that job before it got boring?
1213-16
November 29, 2012
It would probably get boring after like 2 weeks because you’ll be
sharpening pencils and thinking oooo i am a professional sharpener but
soon you get annoyed because you are going to sharpen pencils for
people to earn money. But when you are busy people will come and your whole life is sharpening pencils.

I wouldn’t like to be like David because I would spend most of my day sharpening pencils ,I would spend most of my day making sheer that all of the pencils are perfect and have a sharp tip and I wouldn’t want to do that.
I would want to be like David because i would be paid $20.00 per pencil to sharpen and I would get to use all kinds of tools to sharpen pencils.

November 28, 2012
Oh, I agree with you about using a variety of tools. That’s one thing I really enjoy about when I get to work in my woodshop!

November 28, 2012
I wouldn’t be a pencil sharpener like David because it would be boring to sharpen pencils all day. It’s silly when friends ask you to go out with them and you have to say no because you have too many pencils to sharpen. If I was a pencil sharpener, I would lower the sharpening price to about $3 dollars because sharpening pencils is not the most important thing, and if that was the price, it wouldn’t be enough to make a living. Eating and staying alive is the most important thing.

Hats off to you, 2, for a well-crafted response. I like how you referred to specific evidence from the video (such as having too many pencils to sharpen at night). Bravo!!!
It’s interesting. In his book (which I have only glanced at), I believe it said he charged $12.00 or $12.50 to sharpen a pencil. Yet the video said $20.00. I wonder if he raised his prices when he became more well-known. (Or maybe the $20.00 price includes shipping expenses that the $12 cost does not.)

November 28, 2012
I wouldn’t like Dave’s job because Only a crazzzy person would pay 20$ to PERFECTLY :0!!!! If I wanted buisness i’d have to SERIOSLY lower the price too 1$ and I wouldn’t make enough money to have food and stuff I need to leave

I would not like to be a pencil sharpener like David. It would be kind of fun to do it for a little while, but it would get boring sharpening pencils all the time. My fingers would hurt and I would rather not miss out on fun things because I was too busy sharpening pencils. Even though you would get a lot of money, its just not my thing.
jonmoss
November 28, 2012
Well-supported, 12! I, too, would be afraid of all the blisters! I wonder how David Rees avoids them…

I would not like to have Davids job because it would be a waste of my time. I wouldn’t like his job because it would be boring to sharpen pencils all day long. I rather be a person who sells really fancy pencil sharpeners that make your pencil very pointy and smooth so your hand does not turn red.

I would not want David Reese’s job because I wouldn’t get to see all the wonderful things in the world, but there is some good things in David’s job is that you can do like being the best pencil sharpeners in the world and you can get some money to buy stuff like clothes ,food, and etc. There are some good s in David’s job,but my opinion is that I don’t like these kinds of jobs but all of our minds are different. Also don’t just do what everyone else thinks and you can be the unique and the one to be that thing that you want to be when you grow up.You might be a pencil sharpener even though you didn’t want be one or something else that you don’t want to be it and change your mind when you get older and this not be true to you just saying some advice when you get older.
