NTS: What would you have done?
June 5, 2012 | Posted in: Class Updates
In class today, we read about what happened when the Nazi soldiers came into Annemarie’s home. After they left, who would be the first to speak? What would he or she say? How would the conversation develop? Share your ideas by commenting, below. If you’re replying to someone, click the REPLY link under their message.

I think the first person to speak would be Ann Marie because she might be really, really scared, but not scared enough to not talk like Elle

I think the first word would be from Ellean and she would whisper to Annmeri thank goodness.

I think the first person that would talk would be Ann Marie because she would be really worried about her best friend Ellen, getting caught and “replaced.”

I think that the first person to speak would be Papa, who would be asking Annemarie why she had the Star of David imprint on her hand, and then making her find a way to get the imprint off of her hand. Then everybody would go back to bed.

I think that is a great guess because I bet that Ellen was extremely relieved to know that she wasn’t getting “relocated” when the Nazi’s left.

I think she would say, “That was really, really scary. I hope they don’t come back.”
I think the conversation would develope by Mr. or Mrs. Johanesen changing the subject so that Ellen and Ann Marie would feel a little bit more comfortable and so they wouldn’t think as much about it.

I think the first person to speak would be Annmarie and she would say she was scared because she had the star of david marked on her hand and if a nazi saw her he would think she was Jewish.

I think the first person to speak is Ellen. What she would say is PHEW THAT WAS CLOSE!! The Nazi officers were so close to catching her. Then they would go back to bed.

I think the first person to talk would be Annemarie because she would probably say “That was really scary, but I’m just so happy that the Nazis didn’t find out that Ellen was hiding with us” I think that if Annemarie did say that I don’t think Ellen would say anything back. I think that she might have been standing there in silence thinking of what just happened and how much danger she had just been in.

I think that the first person to talk would be Annemarie’s father saying “That was a close one” and “I am so happy we didn’t get caught.” The conversation would develop with probably Annemarie’s mother thanking her husband for finding the photo album, and maybe you could see that they were very sad because of how the Nazis ripped up the last picture of Lise they had. (Sorry if I spoiled that, I think they said that I am not to sure). I think because of that either Annemarie or her mother were crying or saying something like that. I think Ellen wouldn’t say anything or be the last one to say anything because she was so scared because she thought she was going to get caught.
Sorry that was so long!!

Great job! It is kind of like what 9 said, I really like how you pointed that out! Like if the Nazis saw Annemarie clenching her fist together, they might have asked her what is in your hand?. I really like how you pointed that out, 7 (and 9)!

I like how you used the word in parentheses ‘relocated’. Great word choice!

I think annmarie would speak first because she would be worried about ellen then ellen would speak then the parents
1112 - 11
June 5, 2012
I think also that Papa and Mama would talk first and say how can they take Ellen to a safer place because the Nazis ripped up the only picture that prove Elln is Lise since Kristi and Annmarie have blond hair.

First there would probably be a moment of silence because of the shock and relief of what just happened. I think the first person to speak would be Ellen saying, (Thank you.) is a soft voice because the Johonsons just saved her right? Then Kirsti might come in and start yelling or get super angry because the Nazi’s just woke her up. Then a conversation would start with the mother telling Kirsti to go to bed as stubbern as she is and the girls would go to be in relief and fright that they might be in such danger again. Of course I might be wrong though.

I think the first person to talk would be Annmarie and she would say “wow….I can’t believe…they…”
I think she would say that because she and everyone (Esspesicially Ellen) would be speechless, and terrified! They would not know what to say. I’d think they’d be all waiting for someone to talk, (Like Ellen!)
But really, everyone would be speechless!
1112 - 16
June 5, 2012
I think Ellen will be the first person to talk because everyone was scared that she might get caught by the Nazis along with a punishment for the johansens for hiding a jew.

June 5, 2012
The nazi’s didn’t breach her neckless but Annmarie snapped it off, because it represented the Star of David, a Jewish symbol, if the nazis took it off, Ellen and everyone would be in BAD trouble!

June 5, 2012
Ellen might be saying, “I should probably evacuate this place or practice to answer more confidently! What if it happens again and they come looking for me?”
1112 - 15
June 5, 2012
That might also be true, good reasoning!

Let’s focus on the torn up photo: What will be the family’s reaction? What will they say or do?
1112 - 15
June 6, 2012
….That is possible, but my thought is they would defintally have a talk about this (What will we do, How are we going to sneak past the nazis?)

They might be really mad, because that was the last photo of Lise and I want to know really badly why! We might find out today 😀
